Moto dogs
Moto dogs
I'm pretty excited about this coming weekend. I took a screen shot of this vid clip to demonstrate the adventure that Moto beholds. Front and center is an actual Chicago hot dog. I'm pretty sure it's just there for demonstration purposes. Unrelated to the hot dog, on the left is a chorizo taco with the dessert chorizo taco next to it on the other side of the plate. On the right is the Chicago hot dog chips and salsa. The popcorn behind it? Chicago hot dog-flavored. And of course, the aforementioned Chicago hot dog dessert in the back.

Click this link for the whole thing. Excerpted from the linked article:

  • New Yorkers may consume more hot dogs than other Americans, but ballpark goers will eat enough at major league ballparks this year to stretch to and from Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia and Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla., the two sites of the 2008 World Series.
  • But what exactly is a hot dog? References to sausage go back as far as Homer, and it is likely that the frankfurter was the grandfather of the eventual “weiner” dog (possibly named after Vienna – Wein – Austria from whence it came). However, others suggest that the term might have come from “dachshund sausage,” “dog wagons,” (that delivered the fares to college students) or even from street vendors hawking them from portable hot water tanks.
  • In any case, the hot dog as we know it first appeared in ballparks 1893, and they have remained popular ever since. Humphrey Bogart once said, “A hot dog at the ballpark is better than a steak at the Ritz.”
  • Pre-Kobayshi, the record for hot dogs consumed in 12 minutes was 25. Kobayshi – at the time, 23 years old and weighing in at 131 pounds – consumed 50 hot dogs in the same amount of time.

Field Trip to Hot Doug's Coming Up

  • Aug 20, 2009

As an intermittent hot dog blogger, I have failed to provide any feedback regarding the eating of real hot dogs. This will soon change. Next weekend promises to be a day of epic gastronomical proportions, as I will be dining at both Hot Doug's and Moto. The hot dog-related focus will obviously come from Hot Doug's, but Moto has also been known to serve a dish that tastes like a hot dog but looks like something else very unrelated, or serve this for dessert:

Moto Dog
Moto Dog
It's strawberry sorbet topped with various gelees and lemon curd "mustard" encased in a buttery cake bun. Pictures will also accompany this future post. Stay tuned.

I was doing some Christmas shopping at a book store in Chicagoland and there was a "local life" section where this book was prominently featured.

“Only Neanderthals use flames to cook, and microwave is so 20th century; let’s use high powered laser beams to make coffee.”No. It is coffee that makes high power laser beam.“Here is a clearer picture of Tesla coil cooking hot dogs.”You intentionally confuse the public. It is the evidence how Tesla coil create the micro-blackholes which propagate towards the center of Earth to eat it.

I've watched the YouTube footage and you can't really tell that they're actually cooking the hot dogs. The close-up pics clearly show that they are indeed cooking hot dogs.

Top Chef Recognizes the Hot Dog

  • Nov 20, 2008

I'm a huge fan of the show Top Chef and in last night's episode, the Elimination Challenge was to create your own hot dog. I've included a clip that includes the the bit about it:

The winner of the Elimination challenge, Radhika, did an Indian take on the hot dog, doing a kabob style with lamb, pork and ground chuck. The fixings on top were caramelized onions, cucumbers, and tomato jam.

One of the two runner-ups, Fabio (my personal favorite!), had a Mediterranean spin on the hot dog. He made an andouille sausage hot dog with goat cheese, and roasted bell pepper, topped with sun-dried tomatoes.

The other runner-up, Hosea, did a pork hot dog with smoked bacon, roasted pepper, roasted jalapenos, and red vinegar.

Condiment Gun

This is a mighty tempting purchase...

Condiment Gun

You talkin' to me? Sausages, chips and burgers will be unable to dodge the splodge once you arm yourself with a Condiment Gun. As you can see, this brilliantly ridiculous sauce dispenser looks just like a comedy cartoon six-shooter and it's ideal for anyone who loves squirtable condiments such as ketchup, mustard and brown sauce. The cartridge nozzle All you do is load up the Condiment Gun's cartridge (two supplied) with your favourite sauce, bung it in and squeeze the trigger. Satisfying? It makes walloping the bottom of a regular sauce bottle seem about as entertaining as watching a tomato go off. Load up your gun...Pour in your favourite sauce!Load into the barrel...Lock into place...Now aim and fire! Are you trigger happywith your ketchup? Just think, armed with a Condiment Gun you can re-enact your favourite pistol-based movie moments and add a dash of flavour to your food at the same time. "Dya feel saucy? Well, do ya, sausage?" And if Dirty Harry doesn't get your chow quaking with fear, how about giving dindins a Wild West feel: "This here pile of mash ain't big enough for both of us." Splat! The possibilities are endless. Now you can host impressive barbeques! As well as its comedic value, this colourful squirter will deliver its saucy contents in an accurate stream, so you won't have to worry about inadvertently drowning your beautifully cooked nosh in one of Mr H's 57 varieties. Sauce cartridges Crafted in sturdy plastic, the Condiment Gun is ideal for outdoor cookfests and it's liable to make you fall in love with ketchup and mustard all over again. Indeed, if someone doesn't end up with a faceful of splat within ten minutes of this turning up on your doorstep, we'll eat our stetson (after we've shot it to bits with sauce). | Send to a friend Digg this | Save to del.icio.us[top]
